Goes Great With...

You can’t go wrong with whole barbecue chicken, can you? We like to spin up a mixture of lemon juice, seasoning, and our favorite BBQ sauce to coat the chicken with before throwing it on a hot grill.

Our Preferred Preparation for Organic Whole Chicken

So many options here. You can cook The Butcher Shoppe's organic chickens whole on the barbecue or stuffed in a roast, or break them down into individual pieces. We recommend rubbing your chicken down with butter before seasoning it with salt, pepper, and herbs. And don’t forget to make a nice chicken stock with the leftover bones and trimmings!

    How It Ships...

Our organic whole chickens are hand prepared to order at our Toronto butcher shop before they’re immediately shipped to your door. We can deliver throughout the greater Toronto area. We also have in-store pick up available.

The Butcher Shoppe sources our organic whole chickens from local Ontario farms. These organic chickens are always all natural, free-range, and hormone free.

For the best taste and quality, our butchers recommend that you prepare or freeze your organic whole chicken within five days of receiving it. There's no need to wash raw chicken, as this will only spread juices to other surfaces. Instead, wash your hands before handling the chicken and use a separate cutting board for the raw poultry. Another key step is to avoid drying the chicken out while cooking it.

A four-ounce serving of organic chicken breast contains just about 100 calories and almost two dozen grams of protein, making it a lean meal option that's easy to prepare.

“Made from 100% locally raised Ontario chicken.”

The Butcher Shoppe's organic whole chickens are hand cut and sourced from local Ontario farms. We air chill our chicken instead of water chill it, which helps to retain that beautiful colour and big natural flavour without any extra water weight. Like all of The Butcher Shoppe's chickens, our whole organic chickens come fresh from free-run farms in the local area.

“Where you get your chicken matters. From the farm the chickens are raised on, to how the meat is chilled, we really scrutinize every last detail, which you’ll find in the juicy tender flavor of Butcher Shoppe chicken.”

    Grilling Your Chicken

When it comes to grilling organic whole chicken, we like to keep it simple. Coat the chicken in your favorite marinade, such as oil, vinegar, honey, mustard, and lemon juice, and let it sit for a couple of hours. Once the grill is hot, evenly cook the chicken whole for a couple of minutes on each side.

    Broiled Chicken

The easiest way to broil whole chicken is to break it down first. Get your broiler going on high and slice your chicken breasts in half lengthwise. Next, rub the meat down with olive oil, salt, pepper, and a cajun spice mix of your choosing. Place your organic chicken breasts on the rack and broil them 4-5 minutes on each side.

    Pan Cooked Chicken

To pan fry your whole organic chicken, break down the meat and coat the dry chicken breasts in a mix of flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Next, heat a generous drizzle of oil in a pan on medium heat and sear your chicken portions for 4-5 minutes on each side.
