"Like Butter.”
The Quick Facts...
  • Air-chilled, hand-cut poultry
  • Free range, all natural and hormone free
  • 3-4 lbs each

The Butcher Shoppe sources our whole chickens from local Ontario farms. Always all natural. Always free-range and hormone free. These whole chickens are air-chilled, helping them to retain their beautiful colour and natural flavour—without paying for any extra water weight like you do with most water-chilled chickens. High in lean protein and very calorie efficient, these whole chickens are simply delicious.

Goes Great With...

You can’t go wrong with whole barbecue chicken, can you? We like to spin up a mixture of lemon juice, seasoning, and our favorite BBQ sauce to coat the chicken with before throwing it on a hot grill.

Our Preferred Preparation...

So many options here. You can cook Butcher Shoppe chickens whole on the barbecue or stuffed in a roast, or break them down into individual pieces. We recommend rubbing your chicken down with butter before seasoning it with salt, pepper, and herbs. And don’t forget to make a nice chicken stock with the leftover bones and trimmings!

    How It Ships...

Our whole chickens are hand prepared to order before they’re immediately sent to your door on our own fleet of refrigerated trucks within 12-24 hours of your order.

Glad you asked! Our chicken breast is sourced from local Ontario chicken farms without exception.

Prepare or freeze your Butcher Shoppe chicken within five days of receiving them. You don’t need to wash raw chicken! This will only spread juices to other surfaces. Instead, wash hands before handling and use a separate cutting board for your raw chicken protein. Otherwise, the key is to avoid drying the chicken out during cooking.

Chicken breast is the health nut’s choice for a reason: a four-ounce serving contains just about 100 calories and almost two dozen grams of protein. It’s lean, it’s healthy, and it’s incredibly easy to make.

“Made from 100% locally raised Ontario chicken.”

It doesn’t get much better than hand-cut chicken breasts sourced from local Ontario farms. Air-chilled chicken breast, that is. While most Ontario-sourced chicken breast is water chilled, ours is air chilled, helping to retain that beautiful colour and big natural flavour without any extra water weight. All Butcher Shoppe chickens come from free-run farms in the local area. It’s fresh, all-natural chicken breast right from your own backyard.

    From the Head Butcher’s Counter

“Where you get your chicken breast matters. From the farm the chickens are raised on, to how the meat is chilled, we really scrutinize every last detail, which you’ll find in the juicy tender flavor of Butcher Shoppe chicken breast.”

How the Butcher’s Prepare Chicken Breasts

Chicken breast is all about simplicity and versatility. It’s a weekly staple for busy people. That’s why our butchers go for a chicken and rice recipe where the whole kit and kaboodle is simmered in chicken broth. Both rice and protein soak up that moisture, making for an extra flavorful chicken and rice recipe that will keep a busy person fed for a week.

    On the Grill

Grillmasters love to boast their own proprietary grilled chicken recipes. We like to keep it simple. Throw together your favorite marinade in a ziploc bag—say, oil, vinegar, honey, mustard, and lemon juice?—add your chicken breasts, and let it sit for a couple of hours. Once the grill is hot, give it a couple minutes on each side and bingo.

    Using a Broiler

Get your broiler going on high. Slice your chicken breasts in half (lengthwise) before rubbing them down with olive oil, salt, pepper, and a cajun spice mix of your choosing. Place your chicken breasts on the rack and broil them 4-5 minutes on each side.

    In a Pan

We like to pat the chicken breast dry, then coat it in a mix of flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Then we heat a generous drizzle of oil in a pan on medium heat before searing the protein 4-5 minutes on each side.
