The Butcher Shoppe sources our whole chickens from local free-range Ontario farms. Always all natural and hormone free, these whole raw chickens are air-chilled, helping them to retain their beautiful colour and natural flavour—without paying for any extra water weight like you do with most water-chilled chickens. High in lean protein and very calorie efficient, our whole chickens are simply delicious. If you're looking to buy whole chicken in the Toronto area, order online today for pick up or delivery from The Butcher Shoppe!

Goes Great With...

You can’t go wrong with whole barbecue chicken, can you? We like to spin up a mixture of lemon juice, seasoning, and our favorite BBQ sauce to coat the chicken with before throwing it on a hot grill.

Our Preferred Preparation for Whole Chicken

So many options here. You can cook The Butcher Shoppe's whole chickens on the barbecue or stuffed in a roast, or break them down into individual pieces. We recommend rubbing your chicken down with butter before seasoning it with salt, pepper, and herbs. And don’t forget to make a nice chicken stock with the leftover bones and trimmings!

How Much Does Whole Chicken Cost?

Our whole chicken is priced at $18.50 for a 3-4lb bird. *Prices are subject to change. See the top of this page for the most current pricing information.

    How It Ships...

Our whole chickens are hand prepared to order in our Toronto butcher shop before they’re immediately shipped to your door. We deliver throughout the greater Toronto area. We also have in-store pick up available.

Glad you asked! We source our whole chickens locally from farms in Ontario.

For the best results, prepare your whole chicken within five days of receiving it, or freeze the chicken within five days. Remember, you don't have to wash your whole raw chicken, as washing raw chicken can spread juices to other surfaces of your kitchen. Instead, simply wash your hands before handling the chicken and if you intend to butcher the bird, use a separate cutting board.

One of the most popular cuts from a whole chicken is the breast. A four-ounce chicken breast contains about 100 calories and nearly 24 grams of protein. It’s lean, healthy, and easy to cook!

“Made from 100% locally raised Ontario chicken.”

It doesn’t get much better than chicken sourced locally from free-run farms in the Ontario area. While most Ontario-sourced chicken is water chilled, The Butcher Shoppe air chills our chickens to help retain their beautiful colour and natural flavour without extra water weight. Our whole raw chickens are fresh, all-natural poultry from right in your own backyard.

    From the Head Butcher’s Counter

“Where you get your chicken matters. From the farm the chickens are raised on, to how the meat is chilled, we really scrutinize every last detail, which you’ll find in the juicy tender flavor of Butcher Shoppe chicken.”

    On the Grill

Our whole chickens work great for grilled chicken recipes. We like to keep it simple. First butcher your chicken, then throw together your favorite marinade in a ziploc bag (maybe include oil, vinegar, honey, mustard, and lemon juice?), then add your chicken pieces and let that sit for a couple of hours. Heat up the grill, then cook the pieces for a couple of minutes on each side.

    Using a Broiler

To broil your chicken, first butcher your whole bird, then get your broiler going on high. Season your pieces of chicken by rubbing them down; we recommend a mix of olive oil, salt, pepper, and a cajun spice mix. Next, place your chicken pieces on the rack and broil them for a few minutes on each side until they're sufficiently cooked.

    In a Pan

Pan-cooked chicken is an absolute delight, especially when the pieces are butchered fresh from a whole chicken! We like to pat our chicken pieces dry, then coat them in a mix of flour, salt, pepper, and garlic powder. Next, heat up the pan on medium heat and add a generous drizzle of oil before searing the chicken for a few on each side.
