Duck eggs are everything you know and love about chicken eggs but taken to the next level. They’re slightly larger, richer, and creamier but can be cooked however you normally prepare chicken eggs. Duck eggs are known for having a greater yolk-to-white ratio with a higher concentration of nutrients and protein. Their luxurious texture and bold flavour make them the perfect choice for baking, cooking, or even enjoying on their own as a gourmet treat.
Our Duck Eggs Go Great With
Duck eggs are a versatile and indulgent ingredient, perfect for pairing with a variety of flavours. When combined with our collection of premium sausages, you can create a mouthwatering, balanced meal that highlights the taste of the eggs and the sausages. Here are some great sausage pairings to try:
-
Pork Breakfast Sausage: A classic pairing, the mildly seasoned pork breakfast sausage enhances the duck eggs without overshadowing them. The delicate balance of savoury and slightly sweet flavours makes for a comforting, well-rounded meal.
-
Hot Italian Sausage: Italian hot sausage brings a punch of spice, and its bold seasoning enhances the mildness of the eggs, creating a zesty and vibrant combination that's both hearty and satisfying.
-
Smoked Andouille Sausage: The smoky heat of Andouille sausage complements the eggs' bold flavour, creating a deep, savoury profile that brings out the best in both. Perfect for a spicy, satisfying breakfast or brunch.
-
Honey Garlic Sausage: The sweet and garlicky notes of this sausage contrast beautifully with the robust nature of the duck eggs, offering a delicious balance of sweet and savoury.
Our Preferred Preparation For Delicious Duck Eggs
Duck eggs are incredibly versatile and can be cooked in a variety of ways, each bringing out their flavour. Whether you prefer them poached, fried, scrambled, or in other preparations, here are simple instructions for each method to make the most of your duck eggs:
-
Fried:
-
Heat a small amount of oil or butter in a skillet over medium heat.
-
Crack the duck egg into the pan and cook until the whites are set.
-
For sunny side up, serve as is. For over-easy, flip the egg carefully and cook for another 30 seconds to 1 minute.
-
Poached:
-
-
Bring a pot of water to a gentle simmer and add a splash of vinegar.
-
Crack the duck egg into a small cup.
-
Stir the water to create a gentle whirlpool, then carefully slide the egg into the center.
-
Cook for 3-4 minutes until the whites are set but the yolk remains runny.
-
Remove with a slotted spoon and serve immediately.
-
-
Hard-Boiled:
-
Place the duck eggs in a pot of cold water and bring it to a boil.
-
Once boiling, lower the heat and simmer for 9-10 minutes.
-
Remove and place in an ice bath to cool.
-
Peel and enjoy as a snack or in salads.
-
Scrambled:
-
Crack the duck eggs into a bowl, and whisk with some Newfoundland sea salt.
-
Heat butter in a skillet over medium-low heat.
-
Pour in the eggs and stir gently until soft curds form.
-
Serve immediately for a fluffy, creamy dish.
